JNU scholar's death: Here's everything you need to know
PhD scholar Krish Rajini

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) PhD scholar Krish Rajini, who was found dead at a house in Munirka Vihar on Monday, was suffering from depression. Krish had recently shared his views on inequality in a Facebook post.

According to sources in Delhi Police, Krish's Facebook posts are being examined and friends, teachers and head of the department's statements will be recorded soon.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  1. According to sources in Delhi Police, Krish's last Facebook post mentions different incidents, hence, "We are examining it to connect all dots".
  2. As per preliminary enquiry, it appears that the scholar mentioned about a childhood incident which he and his friends might have encountered.
  3. Statements of people including Krish's friends, teachers and head of department will now be recorded for a clearer picture.
  4. Krish's last post on Facebook mentions the long struggle he faced as a Dalit boy.
  5. The post, which was published on March 10, also mentions JNU's professor emeritus and former UGC chairman professor Sukhadeo Thorat denying permission for a protest at the university admin block.
  6. Incidentally, an FIR was filed by JNU administration against students for carrying out a month-long protest.
  7. JNU had witnessed protests after UGC gave more weightage to viva-voce and less to examination. The Left students were named as suspects.
  8. One of Krish's posts mentions discrimination in academic evaluation especially viva-vice, while another talks about the new UGC policy.
  9. Krish was an active member of the Justice for Rohith Vemula Movement.
  10. There are photographs of Krish comforting missing JNU student Najeeb's mother as well. Najeeb went missing in October 2016.
  11. Another photograph in his Facebook profile shows him standing next to PM Jawaharlal Nehru's statue near the admin block.
  12. As per the investigations, it appears no personal reason can be attributed to his suicide.
  13. Cops are keeping an eye on Left students as they fear these students may carry out protests both within and outside the campus.
  14. Police is trying to reconstruct the sequence of events of the last 24 hours, including who he called up and met before the suicide.
  15. According to DCP (south) Ishwar Singh, no suicide note has been recovered while Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) will conduct a thorough search.
  16. Postmortem of JNU student has been stuck for two reasons. Firstly, the family demands that whenever they file a complaint, it is converted into an FIR. Secondly, a forensic expert from Chennai police says that unless the post-mortem is not completed, they can't register the FIR.
  17. The AIIMS medical board of 5 has doctors from different hospitals, there is no chance of 'tweaking' the report.
