Spanner in plan to convert Poes Garden into memorial as will of Jayalalithaa's mother surfaces

In a twist of events, the will of J Jayalalithaa's mother Sandhya has emerged. According to the will, the Poes Garden residence had been bequeathed to Jayalalithaa by her mother.
India Today has accessed the will of Jayalalithaa's mother, according to which Poes Garden belongs to Amma. While the Poes Garden residence had been left for Amma, Jayalalithaa's brother was given a house in T Nagar.
Jayalalithaa's will, however, is yet to surface. Nobody has a clue whether Jayalalithaa actually left a will. In its absence, her niece and nephew Deepa and Deepak Jayakumar seem to be the legal heirs as they are Amma's closest living relatives.
The Tamil Nadu government had announced that Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence will be converted into a memorial.
Armed with the old will copy, Deepak and Deepa have decided to approach the court.
Deepak, son of Jayalalithaa's brother Jayakumar, told India Today, "Will you allow your house to be converted into a memorial ? I will not allow my house to be converted into a memorial. I have the documents to prove. I will approach the court."
Deepak has written a letter to Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy. Deepa Madhavan has also planned to approach the court.
Sandhya, who was also an actress, left the handwritten will in her hospital bed before her death. In her will, she left her Natya Kala Niketan controlling the properties. Jayalalithaa is the partner of Natya Kala Niketan which controls Poes Garden residence.
The T Nagar residence of Sandhya was left to her son Jayakumar whose children are Deepa and Deepak.
Sudha Ramalingam, advocate says, "This is her mother's will. Now that there is no will by Jayalalithaa, it can go to second class legal heirs. If the government wants to set up memorial they have to acquire the will from the legal heir and then compensate."
Meanwhile, TTV Dhinakaran said that the decision of declaring the Poes Garden residence as memorial is for "the personal interest of few persons".
Meanwhile, talks of merger between the EPS and OPS camps of the AIADMK are likely anytime today.
