Chisako used to go for wealthy men and the men she has already killed were all in their 70s too. The infamous killer is also known as Black Widow in the Japanese media. The name comes from a female spider which is known to kill its mates after sex.

Kyoto District Court ruled that Chisako Kakehi used cyanide "with a murderous intention" in the four cases, and that she should be held responsible for the crimes irrespective of the face that she had been diagnosed with dementia.

"The cases were well prepared in advance. They were cunning and malicious. I have no choice but to impose the ultimate penalty," BBC quoted Judge Ayako Nakagawa.

Chisako was wearing a hearing aid and asked the judge to speak loudly during the proceedings. The Black Widow was devoid of emotions when the sentence was handed down.

The Black Widow made special request to dating agencies to fix her with wealthy and childless men.

She reportedly inherited around one billion yen (Rs 57 crore approximately) in all, although she later lost some of it through the stock market.
