Kashmir: Weapon-snatching bid foiled in Srinagar's Jamia Masjid

The youth tried to snatch the SLR rifle of constable Fayaz Ahmad of IRP 2nd Battalion outside the Jamia Masjid in Old City.

A rifle-snatching attempt by two to three unidentified youths was foiled in Srinagar city on Thursday. The youths tried to snatch the SLR rifle of constable Fayaz Ahmad of IRP 2nd Battalion outside the Jamia Masjid in old city. The constable was stationed there for the security of the mosque.

However, the unidentified youths later fled from the spot after the cop thwarted their attempt to snatch his rifle.

Soon after the incident a joint team of SOG, police and CRPF arrived at the spot and began conducting searches to arrest the assailants.

This is the second incident of its kind in less than 24 hours. Earlier, some youths made a successful bid to snatch a rifle from an IRP constable, who was guarding Kankahi Mohalla in downtown Srinagar.
