Delhi Police have requisitioned for the elite 'crack K-9 units' of ITBP by sending an urgent request to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The move followed a brainstorming meeting on December 14, attended by all national security and intelligence agencies of the country.

Sources said that during the the security assessment meeting, pin-pointed terror inputs were collated, sifted, analysed and scrutinised under a fine toothed comb.

The security agencies have concluded that the threat perception is at the highest ever level for the next year's Republic Day Parade.

The intelligence inputs suggest that the Pakistan-based terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba has activated its sleeper cells afresh to carry out terror attacks on the Rajpath in New Delhi during this Republic Day celebrations.

It is in this background that Operation Lovely Nose has been launched. The highly trained and operant-conditioned crack ITBP PEDDs (Patrol Explosive Detection dogs) have been scrambled, the senior Delhi Police officials said.

The Delhi Police officials, however, refused to divulge the number of elite ITBP 'crack K-9 units' that have been scrambled.

The ITBP have scrambled their world famous Malinois (Belgian Shepherd) dogs including a highly specialised batch of Doberman breed dogs that have been trained in the highly secret training module followed by ITBP at their National Dog Training School, located at their sprawling campus at Bhanu that is in the Shivalik foothills.

ITBP's Operation Lovely Nose that depends on the sharp noses of their 'crack K9 unit' dogs, is a very dependable bet for the Government of India to sniff terror before it strikes.

From 1975, ITBP crack dogs have a record for zero terror. ITBP personnel have never come under an ambush or an IED attack wherever ITBP dogs sanitised the ROP/ADP.

Till now ITBP is the only force that has not been ambushed in anti-naxal operations in Chhattisgarh, thanks to the effective early warning given by ITBP PED Dogs.

A terrorist has to be lucky only once but ITBP dogs have to be lucky every single time, said a senior official.
