Indian Army's High Altitude Warfare School exhibits its prowess
HAWS, a training and research establishment of the Indian Army, conducted two expeditions on two of the highest peaks of Kashmir and successfully summitted Mount Harmukh and Mount Kolahoi.
Demonstrating utmost professional competence and readiness of its establishment to operate in high altitude areas and complex glaciated terrain, the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) successfully summitted Mount Harmukh and Mount Kolahoi within 20 days.
HAWS, a training and research establishment of the Indian Army, conducted two expeditions on two of the highest peaks of Kashmir and successfully summitted Mount Harmukh (5148 metre) and Mount Kolahoi (5425 metre).
A team comprising an officer and five instructors led the summit of Mount Kolahoi, fixing 1,307 metre of rope in the terrain mix of icefall area, rock faces and soft snow patches. The expedition began on August 1 and was successfully culminated with all individuals on summit on August 5.
A strength of one junior commissioned officer and three instructors summitted Mount Harmukh, fixing 1,500 metre of rope in the terrain mix of icefall area and soft patches. The expedition began on July 14 and culminated with the entire team on summit on July 20.
