India has put on hold all bilateral talks with Pakistan over the death sentence given to former Indian Naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The Narendra Modi government has called off bilateral talks between the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard and Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency, which were scheduled to start on Monday.

Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar, DG, Pakistan Maritime Agency was scheduled to visit New Delhi from April 16 to 19 for the meeting.

"Postponement of talks have been conveyed to the Pakistani side. No new dates decided as yet," government sources said.

Last July, a three-member delegation of the Indian Coast Guard, headed by Director General Rajendra Singh, had visited Pakistan to discuss maritime issues. Monday's meet would have been a reciprocal visit.

Sources said Water Secretary level talks are also "on hold" as India didn't communicate acceptance of the dates - in late April - proposed by Pakistan.
