Hyderabadi youth picked up for raising false "hijack" alarm in three cities
Hyderabad police detained a youngster for sending a hoax threat about a plane getting hijacked. The threat had led to security being beefed up at major airports in the country.
Based on the input provided by Mumbai police, Hyderabad police has detained a person identified as Vamsi who had sent email to Mumbai Police alerting about a possible plane hijack.
According to sources, Vamsi hatched the "hijack alert" drama to avoid meeting with his girlfriend who lives in Pune.
The jobless youth was getting pressure from girlfriend to visit her in Pune but due to financial problem he doesn't wanted to meet his girlfriend, so Vamsi hatched a false plan and raised hijack alarm by sending email to Mumbai Police.
ANONYMOUS E-MAIL
On Saturday night, Security forces upped the vigil after an anonymous letter was sent to the Mumbai Police Commissioner.
The letter also stated that someone had heard suspects talking about a plot to hijack a plane. Following the alert, security levels at Chennai's Arignar Anna airport have been increased seven-fold.
CISF jawans were patrolling the airport premises with loaded weapons, and Central Intel had also received a tip that terrorist organizations might attempt to hijack an airplane, sources said.
Gates in both Kamaraj Domestic Terminal and the international terminal in Chennai had restricted the entry for visitors, and airlines had been instructed to thoroughly check passengers' luggage - including hand luggage.
Following the mail, CISF and other security agencies and airport managers ensured that nothing happened at the airports in the three cities.
