Recruitment scam: Haryana IAS officer convicted over corruption dismissed from service

The Centre has dismissed suspended Haryana Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer Sanjeev Kumar, who was recently convicted in the Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers' recruitment scam, from service.
The department of personnel and training (DoPT) has conveyed to the Haryana government its decision to terminate the service of the 1985 batch IAS officer. The decision has come under Rule 16 (3) of All India Services.

- IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar was recently convicted in the Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers' recruitment scam.
- As a matter or procedure, the convicted officer's reply was sought from the department of personnel and training (DoPT).
- The department consulted Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) before taking action against the officer.
- Kumar, along with former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and several other officials, was convicted and sentenced by a Delhi court for irregularities in the recruitment of 3,206 JBT teachers in primary education department of the state in 1999-2000.
- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had carried out the probe into the case.
- Earlier this year, sources said that two IAS officers were dismissed from service on account of non performance including Narasimha, a 1991-batch IAS officer of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre.
- He was served with a 'premature retirement' order without any notice.
- Several non-performing IPS and IAS officers have been sacked since the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014.
