In Short

  • Votes will be counted today for the Gujarat, Himachal elections
  • While the BJP is in power in Gujarat, the Congress governs Himachal Pradesh
  • Will we see upsets, or will the status quo remain? We'll find out today

Early trends showed that PM Narendra Modi's BJP was leading over the Congress (96-82) in the Gujarat election - the biggest poll of the year. In the Himachal Pradesh election, these were the numbers (Congress + : 20, BJP: 24).

Will the Congress pull off the biggest upset of the year in the Gujarat election - in Prime Minister Narendra Modis home state? It would be the best possible present for the new party chief. Will the Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) win big in Himachal Pradesh, as exit polls have predicted it will - or will the Congress remain in charge?
