Gujarat: Plumber smothers, strangles, stabs housewife to death over Rs 300
A plumber from Gujarat's Navsari district murdered a 37-year-old housewife after she refused to pay an additional Rs 300 for his services.
Residents in Jamalpore of Gujarat's Navsari district woke up to the news of a horrific murder today.
A 37-year-old housewife was brutally murdered by a man who came to repair the geyser at her residence over petty dispute.
Gujarat Police said that the accused identfied as Jayesh Halpati murdered Sheetal Desai after she refused to pay him Rs 300. Jayesh was arrested by the police on Thursday.
Desai, a resident pf Sarvoday Society, was found dead by her 11-year-old son on July 12. Desai was living with her husband Pratik Desai, who owns a confectionery and son Ish Desai. Upon interrogation, Jayesh made the startling revelation.
- On July 12, Jayesh came to Sheetal's house to repair the geyser at around 11 am. Sheetal asked him to repair a tap.
- She later asked him to do some repair work on the terrace. Jayesh told the police that after doing the work he demanded Rs 500.
- Sheetal paid him Rs 200 and refused to pay the additional 300. They got into a minor altercation.
- Jayesh refused to leave the house and later followed her to the bedroom. He kept asking her for the money, and she kept refusing to pay him the sum.
- Moments later, he pushed her towards the bed following which Sheetal suffered injuries to her eye. When she stood up and raised alarm, Jayesh pushed her further back and smothered her with a pillow.
- Sheetal fell unconscious soon after. Sensing that she was still alive, Jayesh told the police that he took a laptop and tried to strangulate her with its wire. He later used the same wire to hang her by the fan.
- Jayesh said that Sheetal did no die even after the strangulation and he later stabbed her in the stomach with a knife. He said that the knife broke and he later used a pair of scissors to stab her.
- At around 2 pm, Sheetal's son returned from school. Finding the front door locked, he entered from the back door only to find his mother brutally murdered.
- Police said that they arrested Jayesh based on a tip off and electronic surveillance. Jayesh confessed the crime saying that he was angered after Sheetal refused to pay him the sum.
