Andhra Pradesh: 6 labourers working in Gollapalem stone quarry in Guntur killed, 2 injured

At least six labourers working in Gollapalem stone quarry near Phirangirpuram in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district have been killed while two others were injured after boulders fell on them.

At least six labourers working in Gollapalem stone quarry near Phirangirpuram in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district have been killed while two others were injured after boulders fell on them.

Those injured were shifted to Guntur government hospital. Meanwhile, senior police officers reached the spot to investigate the cause of the accident.

Speaking to India Today, Guntur Rural SP K Narayan Nayak said, "Around 9:30 am, eight labourers went to the quarry. During drilling, heavy rocks and boulders fell over them, leading to deaths and injuries."

The police is investigating whether the quarry, which was for making stone chips for roads, has an authorised licence and trying to ascertain what led to the mishap.
