North India battles dense fog, flight operations hit, trains delayed

Foggy weather continued to disrupt flight and train operation with 81 north-bound trains including Rajdhani and Shatabdi running behind schedule by several hours. Eight international and five domestic flights have also been delayed due to low visibility.

Meanwhile, the Delhi airport has also initiated measures to handle the situation. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced its preparedness in tackling the fog season at the India Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), to ensure continuity of flight operations during the low visibility period during winter.

The authorities have installed 18 Runway Visual Range (RVR) devices that will help the pilots to accurately measure the visibility at various points on the runway.

Besides, departures of 30 trains were rescheduled and four trains were diverted due to bad weather condition.

The Sealdah-Delhi West Bangal Samparak Kranti Express, Jayanagar-New Delhi Sampark Senani Express were cancelled, said a senior Northern Railway official.

As a result, the Delhi-Sealdah West Bangal Sampark Kranti Express and New Delhi-Jayanagar Sampark Senani Express trains will also remain cancelled today.

New Delhi-Rohtak-New Delhi Express and Jodhpur-Varanasi Marudhar Express are among other trains which were cancelled.

Last week too, hundreds of flights were delayed and many were cancelled after dense fog hit the national capital.
