Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah today triggered yet another controversy when he said that India should approach other countries such as the United States and China to mediate in the Kashmir issue.

Abdullah said India has so many allies across the globe, who can be approached for settling the Kashmir issue to act as a mediator between India and Pakistan.

This is not the first time that he has issued such a controversial remark.

Here's a list of some of his contentious comments:

November, 2015: Farooq Abdullah taunted the government saying Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is not a personal property to be inherited. He questioned India's claim on PoK and said that it isn't its paternal property. "Kya yeh tumare baap ka hai (Is this your fathers' property)," Abdullah said.

December, 2016: Farooq Abdullah triggered a controversy by asking the Hurriyat to unite for the cause of Kashmir and that his party was with them in it. He said, "I ask these Hurriyat leaders to unite. We are standing by your side at this hour. Don't think of us as your adversaries. We are not your adversaries." He then went on to address his party workers saying, "Don't stay behind in this struggle of Kashmir".

February, 2017: Kashmiri youth were picking up guns not for becoming legislators but for "freedom of Kashmir" and maintained that youngsters are not afraid of death.

April, 2017: Stone throwers in Kashmir "are giving their lives for the solution of (the) Kashmir (problem) and not for tourism". "I want to tell (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi sahab that there is no doubt about tourism being our life. But one who throws stones... he has nothing to do away with tourism." He welcomed the US's "desire to act as a mediator between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue".

April, 2017: He courted controversy once again after alleging that the encounter in Kupwara, where three soldiers were martyred, was being blown out of proportion to tarnish the image of Muslims. Calling it a conspiracy to inflame hatred against Muslims, the Srinagar MP asked why there was less hue and cry over Sukma Naxal attack as compared to the Kupwara encounter.
