Exclusive: RK Pachauri continues to hold key post at TERI Europe

The environmentalist who has been facing a series of allegations of sexual harassment still holds a powerful position at TERI's affiliate institute TERI Europe.

Months after announcing his exit from TERI governing council RK Pachauri continues to be director of one of the TERI's affiliate institute TERI Europe.

The environmentalist who has been facing a series of allegations of sexual harassment still holds a powerful position at TERI's affiliate institute TERI Europe.

All you need to know:
  1. Documents in possession of India Today reveal that Pachauri continues to hold the position of company director at TERI Europe.
  2. A company which was registered in 1999 as a charity with RK Pachauri as its founding director had 27, Albert Grove, London as its registered address.
  3. According to its website, TERI Europe has its offices in Netherlands, Belgium and Joensuu-Finland.
  4. The latest annual return filed by the charity in June 2016, of which India Today has a copy shows that despite announcing his departure from active roles at TERI, RK Pachauri continues to hold the powerful position of company director at TERI Europe.
  5. As per the incorporation documents, the charity which was intended to "provide a pool of technical and analytical expertise, representing a number of developing countries, to interact and forge partnership with a broad spectrum of institutions in developed world".
  6. Documents show that there hasn't been any major financial transactions during last financial year and charity continues to maintain a stable small company account.
  7. The charity has total five directors including RK Pachauri who has been shown as director number 3.
  8. The other directors include Mrs Ritu Kumar (who is also company secretary), Dr Kenneth Ronald (environmental consultant), Andrew Mark Simms (Writer) and Dr Marrita Von Breberstein Koch Weser (environment specialist from Germany).
  9. Questions sent to TERI regarding its association with TERI Europe and role of RK Pachauri remain unanswered, however TERI's website does mentions TERI Europe as one of its many affiliated institutes.
  10. Incidentally, the third complainant against RK Pachauri is a 26-year-old foreign national who worked as Pachauri's secretary in India before returning to Europe in 2008 following the termination of her contract.

Reacting to this revelation advocate Vrinda Grover who is representing the complainant against PK Pachauri said "these documents show that TERI governing board has actually tried to mislead the public and allowing him to continue as a company director of TERI Europe is to actually give impunity to sexual harassment".
