India produces close to 1.5 million engineers every year, putting both US and China far behind in creating tech honchos of the future. The ever-increasing obsession with engineering as career attracts millions of fresh school graduates every academic year to scout for good engineering colleges across the country. While government-funded institutes have always been around, the need to be innovative keeping competition in view, has led to mushrooming of different private engineering colleges, which ride high on research, technology and international collaborations. The question troubling most engineering students but is which college is the best? Based on several parameters such as top courses offered, innovation laboratories, and research and development centres, Here is our list of 30 best engineering colleges, that are at par with global standards in innovation, infrastructure and placements.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University (Amrita) was established in 2003 with the philosophy of education for a living and education for life. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was the second IIT established in India in 1958. Its philosophy is to be the fountainhead of new ideas and of innovators in technology and science. Established in 2009, NIIT University (NU) is a not-for-profit university situated 100 kms from the Capital . Placements here are handled by the Centre for Industry Collaboration (CIC), headed by a full-time placement specialist. One of the top private engineering colleges in India, Birla Institute of Technology (BITS) Pilani was founded by industrialist GD Birla in 1964. The only university in India to be based on Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) grading system, it offers variety of undergraduate, post-graduate and PHD courses. "Apart from the lectures, there are separate tutorial classes, where a small group of nearly 40 students are taught with extra detail. Further, there are only two major examinations; mid-semester and end-semester," says Asad Hussain, a BE (mechanical) student at BITS Pilani. On campus R&D centres, Centre for Material Science and Technology, Centre for Renewable Energy and Environment Development, allow students to develop, and implement new technologies besides academics.

Dr C V Raman University is the first private university of Chhattisgarh. It is located over an area of 55 acres in the tribal region of Kota, Bilaspur. "This university has grown from strength to strength since its inception to become a unique multidisciplinary university of higher learning in Chhattisgarh. "We have consistently ranked as one of the top five private engineering institutes in the country. Sathyabama University (formerly known as Sathyabama Engineering College and affiliated to University of Madras), was established in 1987 by Founder Chancellor Col.
