Following Senator Ted Cruz's endorsement of Donald Trump for the United States presidency, the latter thanked his main rival in the Republican Party's primaries for the "wonderful surprise".
Trump, the US Republican Party's presidential candidate, took to Twitter on Saturday to thank his 'foe-turned friend' for the support. "The @SenTedCruz endorsement was a wonderful surprise. I greatly appreciate his support! We will have a tremendous victory on November 8th," Trump tweeted.
A TIMELY MOVE
Cruz's endorsement is a complete turnaround from his earlier stand and once again shows that in politics, there are no permanent enemies or friends. The two were locked in a bitter rivalry since the past few months with the Senator even refusing to back Trump during his speech at the Republican National Convention in July.

Cruz made the surprise announcement on Friday that he intends to cast his vote for Donald Trump after refusing to lend him his support until now. This comes just days before the crucial first presidential debate between Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Trump on September 27.

"After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on election day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump," the Texas senator announced on Facebook on Friday.
WILL IT HELP?
Cruz's support is important for the business tycoon as the senator has a solid base of ultra-conservatives who instinctively distrust a presidential candidate in his third marriage and who in the past has been ambiguous about his stand on abortion. However, it remains to be seen if Cruz's supporters, many of whom criticized the senator for backing Trump, will eventually vote for Trump.
