Donald Trump has declared war on North Korea, the news agency AFP quoted Kim Jong Un's foreign minister Ri Yong Ho as saying, a day after the US President said in a tweet that the Asian nation "won't be around much longer" if the minister echoed the "thoughts of Little Rocket man."

"The whole world should clearly remember it was the US who first declared war on our country," Ri said, according to a report in the Independent.

"Since the United States declared war on our country, we will have every right to make countermeasures, including the right to shoot down United States strategic bombers even when they are not inside the airspace border of our country," the report quoted him as saying.

"The question of who won't be around much longer will be answered then ," he added.

Donald Trump's rhetoric has been extraordinarily aggressive, at a time when Kim Jong Un has been conducting missile and nuclear tests.

North Korea tested a hydrogen bomb earlier this month, after which the US imposed sanctions on Pyongyang. "It is only a forlorn hope to consider any chance that the DPRK (North Korea) would be shaken an inch or change its stance due to the harsher sanctions by the hostile forces," Ri told the UN General Assembly on Saturday.
