The division vote was taken up after two adjournments following tempestuous scenes during which the opposition MLAs insisted on a secret vote, which was rejected by Speaker P Dhanapal.

WHAT HAPPENED DURING FLOOR TEST

On February 18, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal expelled DMK MLAs, including Stalin, after they allegedly broke chairs, stood on table and manhandled Dhanapal while protesting against the floor test of E Palaniswami government.

While the O Panneerselvam camp demanded a secret ballot, the DMK demanded postponement of the trust vote. Speaker Dhanapal rejected both the demands.

MK Stalin and other leaders of the DMK held a protest at Marina Beach against their alleged forceful eviction from the Assembly during which Stalin's shirt was reportedly torn.

In terms of numbers, Palaniswami passed the floor test convincingly. While 122 AIADMK MLAs voted for Palaniswami, 11 voted against him.
