Despite the firecracker ban in Delhi, it remains to be seen how many will actually stop bursting crackers this Diwali. The ban on the sale of crackers in Delhi-NCR by the Supreme Court has triggered a debate over air pollution. Amid the hue and cry, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan today asked scientists of the country to invent pollution-free firecrackers.

"I have challenged some of the most prestigious scientists of the country to invent zero-pollution firecrackers by the next year in a meeting held with them on Saturday," said Union minister Harsh Vardhan told India Today.

However, Harsh Vardhan seem to be certain that, by the next Diwali the scientists will surely come up with eco-friendly crackers and everyone will celebrate the festival without pollution.

On the other hand, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma said that India has had a history of utilising its rich culture for its betterment and therefore everyone should do their bit to make India pollution-free.

On the Sunday morning at Delhi's India Gate, over 5,000 school children gathered to participate in the Clean Air Marathon and also pledged to not use firecrackers. Children holding banners in hands spread message in the society to play green and safe Diwali.

Therefore, both Union ministers were also present at the event to support the children in spreading message to the society.
