Dhaka: Fire breaks out at Shahjalal Airport's Air India office

A major fire broke out at Air India office room at Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka today and at least six flights of international routes were delayed due to the closure of major power lines.

A major fire broke out at Air India office room at Shahjalal Airport in Dhaka today and at least six flights of international routes were delayed due to the closure of major power lines.

Station Officer of Uttara Fire Brigade Shafiqur Islam said no casualties were reported.

The fire was brought under control in one-and-a-half-hour with the help of 10 firefighting units.

Fire Service Control Room Officer Mizanur Rahman said that the fire started at the Air India office room on the third floor of the main building of the airport after the Friday prayers. The electricity connection of the whole airport was stopped due to it.

Airport Chief Security Officer Rasheda Sultana told that most of the workers of different floors came out and the exit work was stopped due to smoke being surrounded.

Abdul Mannan, senior officer of Kurmitola Fire Station, said 10 fire tenders brought the fire under control at around 3am. But he could not tell the cause of the fire or the amount of damage.

Rasheda, chief security officer of the airport, said, "After the fire came under control, power supply was restarted and flights were allowed to operate."

Air India Customer Service Officer Tajul Islam said, "Our entire office has been burnt down. Lockers, papers and money were all burnt."

But the Air India official could not give any idea about how the fire originated.
