Demonetisation: MHA directs states to deploy police forces at toll plazas

The directive has been issued anticipating a possible scenario of shortage of cash that could result in longer than normal traffic at the toll plaza booths.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today issued an advisory to all the states to deploy adequate police force at toll plazas, to facilitate smooth passage of national highways users at all toll collection booths.

The MHA Centre-state division asked the states to ensure availability and deployment of adequate officers and police forces so that no law and order situation arises across toll plazas.

This directive was passed anticipating a possible scenario of shortage of currency notes that could result in longer than normal traffic at the toll plaza booths. The advisory has come as toll collection resumed across all the national highways on December 2.

Several measures have been undertaken so that traffic runs smoothly at toll collection booth such as fee collection through credit/debit cards through point of sale system installed by the banks, usage of fee paid instruments, e-wallet, electronic toll collection and acceptance of old currency note of Rs 500 till the December 15 as a special case.

This new directive to deploy police forces is an additional measure at toll collection booths to keep the situation under control.
