Delhi: Massive fire breaks out in Rithala slums, angry residents pelt stones at fire tenders

Reports suggested that the fire broke out in the shanties of Rithala area in the North-West Delhi around 12.45 am on Monday. Many angry residents started pelting stones at three fire tenders, injuring one fire worker.

A massive fire broke out in the slums of Delhi's Rithala area today early morning. As many as 30 fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.

Angry residents pelted stones at two fire tenders, injuring one worker.

Reports suggested that the fire broke out in the shanties of Rithala area in the North-West Delhi around 12.45 am on Monday. The cause of the fire hasn't been identified yet.

Heavy black smoke and tall flames were seen in the Rithala area due to the fire in the slums. Around Many shanties and vehicles parked nearby were gutted in the fire.

Several Officials of the Delhi Police and fire department rushed to the spot.

Ashish, a resident of the area, said that the fire broke out around 12.45 am at the corner of the slum.

"Many cylinders which were kept in the slum burst due to the fire," he said.

Fire department official Dharampal said the residents were really angry as the fire tenders were taking time to reach the spot.

" The road to these slums has been blocked due to some pipeline work. Every resident wanted that their shanties should be saved first. This resulted in pelting of stones," he said.
