After getting approval from the Union ministry of urban development for development work worth Rs 3 crore on Wednesday, Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi at Rajghat in the national Capital is set to go digital to display interactive experiences on his life and works.

The move is set to enhance the experience for large numbers of visitors who throng Rajghat to have a look and at the life of 'Father of the Nation'.

Three digital screens will be set up at the interpretation centre for interactive learning about the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi, along with widening the pathway, providing ramps to ensure easier accessibility for differently-abled visitors, granite flooring, development of 2-metre wide and 1.1-km long peripheral pathways around Rajghat, construction of seats and benches for visitors, accessible toilets for all, hedge barriers, foot-over-bridges across Lotus Pond.

The projects have been approved by the Rajghat samadhi committee chaired by Union urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu. Other members in the committee include MP Udit Raj, and former MP and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Rajmohan Gandhi.

The ministry has also approved a project that involves setting up of three 46-inch LED screens around Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi for displaying visuals representing his life and role in the national movement; and playing amrit vachans and quotes.

Two more screens will be set up in the interpretation centre for interactive learning about the life and works of Mahatma through a quiz on his life and works, national movement, movies and speeches.

Naidu has asked the central public works department to ensure quality and execution of the approved projects at the earliest.

"I have been on this committee for a long period and am pleased with the current efforts for making a visit to Gandhi samadhi a happy and learning experience," Nair said. The ministry had completed its face-lifting exercise of Rajghat in January and unveiled a new look.
