The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Jaihind wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to help 45 Indian women who are trapped in Oman. The women were taken from India through agents for better job opportunities abroad. The women sent a complaint to Navshristi, an NGO associated with the DCW, and asked them for help.

The women hail from places like Punjab, Haryana and Pudhucherry. They were looking for nursing job opportunities in Dubai, but say that they were taken to Oman through an agent and now have been kept there as domestic help. They claim that their passports have been taken away from them and that they have been starved and even physically abused.

The trapped women also claim that they tried approaching the Indian Embassy in Oman for help numerous times, but did not receive any support.

The DCW chief Swati Jaihind has written to Sushma Swaraj seeking a meeting on this matter and urging her to bring these women back to India and reunite them with their families.
