This is the second time when the police offered special treatment to the stalking accused. Earlier in the police custody, the accused were offered cold coffee besides providing other amenities.

The accused were arrested after they were charged with IPC Sections 365 and 511 (kidnapping, punishment for attempting to commit offences), police officials told India Today.

Giving details about the arrest, Director General of Chandigarh Police ,Tajender Singh Luthra said the accused were asked to join the investigation which resulted in their arrest.

"I have some points which I want to share with you. As you know that we have called both the accused for an interrogation. This was quite a long interrogation. A number of things which will help the investigation have come to light. In the light of the facts which came to the light during today's and earlier investigation we have decided to add two more charges .One is attempt to abduction which will attract two sections i.e. section 365 and 511.Besides this, we have also decided to arrest both the accused. Both these accused will be presented in the court tomorrow. We will request the court to get their police remand as the accused are required to be confronted with many facts. We will also take them to the route to recreate the scene of crime which will confirm a number of facts."

Luthra also clarified that there was no political pressure on the police which was working professionally, objectively and independently. He said the new charges were added on the basis of the legal advice and the evidences.

"The charges are being added after taking the legal advice besides taking into consideration the evidence in form of CCTV footage , statement of witnesses and map of the route," Luthra said.

The DGP, however, refused to share more details about the case saying revealing minute details may harm the investigation.

"There are many things of investigation which I will not share with you as it will affect the investigation. So far, we have come to the conclusion that we will add two fresh charges against them, will arrest them and will produce them in the court . I am only sharing important conclusions and the intricate details are not being shared though it may interest you being a professional journalist but I will refrain from divulging the minute details," Luthra said.ALSO READ:
