Chandigarh hit-and-run case: Co-accused Harmehtab Singh arrested from Haridwar

SSP Chandigarh, Eish Singhal said an FIR under section 307, 34 IPC besides 302 IPC was registered at Sector 3 Police Station on the basis of a complaint filed by Adamya Singh, one of the four eyewitnesses, who had told the police that accused Balraj Singh Randhawa had intentionally hit Sen.

Chandigarh hit-and-run case: Co-accused Harmehtab Singh arrested from Haridwar

After having failed to track the infamous Chandigarh hit-and-run case accused, police on Thursday morning nabbed the co-accused Harmehtab Singh Rarawala alias Farid from Haridwar, police officials said.

Case developments so far:

1. "Harmehtab Singh Rara wala alias Farid was tracked in Haridwar and was trying to hide himself in an Ashram where he was finally nabbed at 5 am today. Efforts are on to arrest the prime accused Balraj Singh Randhawa who owns the White BMW car bearing No CH-01-AP-1133, which was used to hit the victim Akansh Sen," SSP Chandigarh, Eish Singhal said.

2. The senior cop said an FIR under section 307, 34 IPC besides 302 IPC was registered at Sector 3 Police Station on the basis of a complaint filed by Adamya Singh, one of the four eyewitnesses, who had told the police that the accused Balraj Singh Randhawa had intentionally hit Sen.

3. The police said that the Randhawa and Rarawala along with 9 others, which also includes three females, were partying at House No 165 in Sector 9 on the intervening night of February 8-9. Sen's partner Shera had an altercation with the co-accused Rarawala. Both had a fight earlier too.

4. The police also paraded Rarawala in front of media but refused to reveal the details about the prime accused Randhawa.

5. "As much as 27 police teams are working on the case and we have important leads privy to the case and Randhawa, which we cannot share at this stage. The investigation of this case is being conducted on merits under the close supervision of senior officials. The police teams working round the clock to nab the culprit. The raiding parties have been sent at different places to raid the possible hideouts," Singhal said.

6. The victim Akansh Sen belonged to the family of an erstwhile princely state of Kuthar, Solan. His father Arun Sen is brother of Virbhadra Singh's wife Pratibha Singh. The family has alleged that Randhawa and Rarawala had pre-planned the murder of their son and intentionally hit him with the car.
