In the letter, the BSF exam topper said that his sister's college has asked students to leave the hostel this month. "My sister could not leave hostel as she is under threat and for security purpose it is very risky," he wrote.

UNDER THREAT OF MILITANT ATTACK

The BSF assistant commandant's letter comes days after Indian Army officer Ummer Fayaz was abducted and murdered by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

In his letter to Maneka Gandhi, Nabeel Ahmed said, "These days officers like me, who are from Jammu and Kashmir, are under threat of attack by militants as well as our family (sic)".

"I am always in news for supporting forces against terrorism," the BSF exam topper said. He said "this is a matter of emergency and national integrity" and hoped that the minister would not disappoint him.

MINISTER's SWIFT RESPONSE

In a span of 48 hours, Maneka Gandhi asked officials to talk to the college hostel authorities and let the BSF exam topper's sister stay there.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Women and Child Development said, "Maneka Gandhi immediately took it up with the college authorities, who have now allowed Mr Nabeel's sister to stay in the hostel".

"Under the guidance and leadership of PM @NarendraModi ji it is our solemn duty to safeguard the families of soldiers, who guard our country," the Ministry said on Twitter.
