Amritsar: Unclaimed bag at airport triggers bomb scare, bomb squad finds nothing suspicious inside

A bomb disposal squad was put into action as an unclaimed bag was forgotten by a passenger at the Sri Guru Ramdass International Airport today. Nothing suspicious was found in the luggage and a passenger later came forward to claim it, police said.

After an unclaimed bag at Amritsar airport sparked off panic among locals on Tuesday, the bomb disposal squad that rushed to the spot found that there was nothing suspicious in the luggage.

According to the police, a passenger later came forward to claim it.

The bomb disposal squad swung into action after an unattended bag was found lying at the Sri Guru Ramdass International Airport. Flights from Amritsar's airport were suspended as police cordoned off the area where the briefcase was found, and a bomb disposal squad inspected it.

A Punjab Police team, CISF sleuths and a bomb disposal squad arrived at the spot and cordoned off the after the bag was discovered in the parking area. The bomb disposal squad inspected the abandoned briefcase, triggering a bomb scare and leading to suspension of flights. Nothing suspicious was found in the luggage.

However, when the bag was opened after clearance by the dog and bomb disposal squads, two wrist watches, medicines, tooth brush, pen, cell phone besides some clothes were found inside it, they said."It seems some passenger might have forgotten the luggage while leaving the parking lot," said Superintendent of Police, Jagatpreet Singh.
