Bangladesh: 13 Rohingya refugees die after boat capsizes in Naf river

It is estimated that over 60 people died after a boat capsized on September 28, while another 30 died in an accident on October 8.

At least 13 Rohingya refugees died after a boat capsized in the Naf river near Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. More than 31 people have been reported missing in the accident.

The accident took place after an overcrowded boat carrying the refugees, who tried to enter Bangladesh fleeing Myanmar army's persecution in Rakhine state, capsized in the wee hours of Monday.

Teknaf Police OC Mainuddin Khan said that the victims included four women and six children.

According to the other passengers, there were 65 people on the boat out of which locals rescued 22.

The coastguards, locals and police took part in the rescue operation, said Khan.

Many Rohingya have died while crossing to Bangladesh from the Myanmar border state of Rakhine .
