Beware of criminals who hack into bank accounts by applying adhesive on ATM keypads

Madan Rai disclosed that he along with his associate Pintu Kumar spread adhesive on the key boards of different ATM machines and withdrew cash fraudulently after a person leaves the ATM.

Two people have been arrested after they looted innocent people at ATMs by applying adhesive on the keypads of ATM machines .

Bir Bhan, a resident of Shahpur Jat, New Delhi works as security guard at HDFC Bank ATM, installed at 211A, Masjit Moth, New Delhi. On 22nd August, he received a complain from one, Bhaskar Sharma that a boy was spreading adhesive on the keys of the ATM keypad.

He immediately investigated the machine and found some adhesive on the keypad. Subsequently, during the search for the perpetrator, they spotted two suspicious persons sitting nearby.

The two persons who were later identified as Madan Rai and Pintu Kumar were apprehended by the police and confessed to the crime.

MODUS OPERANDI

Accused Madan Rai and Pintu Kumar had been spotted at the HDFC ATM on many occasions by the security guard, Bir Bhan. During interrogation by the police, the pair of them confessed to hacking into people's bank accounts by adopting the same modus operandi.

Madan Rai disclosed that he along with his associate Pintu Kumar spread adhesive on the key board of different ATM machines. Then, they waited nearby for a person to come in for withdrawal of cash. The withdrawal usually failed due to the adhesive spread on the keys. Then, they entered the ATM and withdrew cash fraudulently from that person's account.

During interrogation, it was revealed that accused persons had also fraudulently withdrawn Rs. 10,000/- from a HDFC ATM in Panchsheel, Rs. 41,000/- from the PNB ATM at Masjid Moth and Rs. 40,000/- from the Vijaya Bank ATM at Gautam Nagar.
