In Short

  • Ready to work with Lalu Yadav for welfare of Muslims: Owaisi.
  • All Opposition parties must come together to defeat BJP, he said.
  • BJP slammed Owaisi saying that it is not threatened by AIMIM.

In a surprised move All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi extended his friendship to Rashtriya Janta Dal president and former chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav.

While addressing a public meeting in remembrance of party revivalist Abdul Wahed Owaisi in the old city of Hyderabad, Owaisi said, ''Lalu yadav you cannot defeat BJP alone. If you want to work for the sake of Muslims welfare in Seemanchal , AIMIM is ready to come with you. But don't think that I am saying this because of fear of the BJP.''

Criticising Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who broke 'Mahagathbandhan' with Congress- RJD in the state and joined hand with the BJP, Owaisi said that knew Nitish will one day join BJP.

"I had said in Kochadhaman (Kishanganj, Bihar) meeting that Nitish will one day join BJP and now it has turned true. It was the same Nitish Kumar who had said that he will die but not join hands with BJP. But now, he is saying corruption is more important issue than secularism and joined hand with the fascist party," said Owaisi.

AIMIM chief also said that for the sake of secularism and to stop the communal forces, all the political party should come together. "It's not the only responsibility of Congress, Lalu or Owaisi but all opposition parties should come together and think how they can stop BJP," he said.

Interestingly, the AIMIM chief who is a sharp critic of Congress party and its leadership, termed political secretary of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel as 'Congress's Big Muslim leader', and said that the BJP was trying to snatch the Rajya Sabha seat from him by hook or by crook. He added that people should learn from this.

Meanwhile, BJP harshly reacted to the comments of AIMIM and said that his party is also a corrupt party and both the corrupt leaders coming together is nothing surprising.

"BJP is not threatened with these noises. We are a secular party and we believe in Sabka Saath Sab Ka Vikas which drives our development agenda. These two parties do non-secular Muslim vote bank politics. This will be no alliance but collision and these collision has failed before. What happened to Mahagathbandhan, that is going to happen this alliance too. We wish him best of luck as we are not threatened at all," said a BJP leader.
