Tragedy at Pokhran firing range: Army jawan from Belgaum shoots himself dead

This morning, jawans at the Pokhran firing range in Jaisalmer heard a gunshot they will likely remember for as long as they live: Their brother-in-arms, Santosh Bakdu, had shot himself with his own weapon.

Bakdu was declared dead at the hospital they took him to.

But why did this native of Karnataka's Belagum, who was young (he was just 38) and married, decide to end his life?

An investigation revealed that he did so due to family reasons (More specific information was unavailable at the time when this report was filed).

Bakdu's body was handed over to officials of the Army unit after a post-mortem analysis.
