Exclusive: 'It would not have happened had I not been a famed singer', Ankit Tiwari on rape case

After the woman who levelled rape charges against singer Ankit Tiwari said that she was pressurised to change her statements in the court, the Sunn Raha Haina Tu famed singer today said that she should have fearlessly told the court her story.

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Ankit Tiwari said that even after acquittal nothing has changed for him. The case tarnished his image irrevocably.

After the Mumbai sessions court acquitted both singer Ankit Tiwari and his brother Ankur Tiwari in the rape case, the woman levelled fresh charges against them.

Ankit with his brother Ankur and advocate Rizwan Merchant spoke to India Today and said, "If she was really forced or pressurised why did she not speak up in the court. She could have approached the police... Why did she not tell the judge?"

"If I would not have been singer Ankit Tiwari this would have never happened," he added.

Tiwari told India Today that belonging to a low profile background, it was not easy for him to work in the industry and all his success is credited to his family's support and his hardwork. "I have earned what I am today and have done lot of hard work for it. We are disturbed by the incident."

The woman had earlier alleged that she had also helped Ankit Tiwari financially.

Tiwari's advocate Rizwan Merchant said, "The woman is herself getting into trouble. All allegations put by her are all false... Earlier she did not even mention rape in her complaint. Let her go to high court, we have all evidences against her."
