In a freak fire mishap, a woman was burnt alive after a Mahindra Scorpio SUV was gutted on the highway near Adduroad Junction at S. Rayavaram mandal in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday when the vehicle caught fire due to over heating while traveling on the highway.

The central locking system of the car malfunctioned when it caught fire which lead to the death of the lady passenger identified as Nagamani.

Nagamani and her husband Ramana were returning to Vijayawada from their native place Purushottapuram when the incident happened. Ramana, who works as a railway driver in Vijayawada, escaped unhurt.

The police has registered a case and Nagamani's body has been sent for post-mortem.
