It was a bizarre scene at an official meeting in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, when a ruling Telugu Desam Party corporator slapped himself with slippers, that too in front of officers and public.

TDP corporator Uma Maheswara Rao was apparently frustrated with the alleged red tapism and high handedness of government officials.

On Monday, during the 29th division grievance cell meeting in Anantpur district, the angry TDP corporator alleged that in spite of bringing the common man's problems before the concerned officers, they have been turning a deaf ear to him.

OFFICIALS NOT PAYING HEED

Rao appealed before the grievance cell that many problems have surfaced in his ward including the non-clearance of bills but no one is heeding his constant appeal and efforts. Frustrated with this, Rao said to the concerned officer at the meeting that his ward people have threatened him to beat with slippers, if he fails to solve their problems.

While the officers and others present at the meeting tried to pacify the angry corporator, he screamed, "Instead of getting a public thrashing it is better I should slap myself only with slippers" and started thrashing himself with his slipper.

His action left everyone shocked present at the meeting.

OFFICIALS TO LOOK INTO MATTER

Later, senior officials said that they will look into the allegation and try to resolve the issue as early as possible.

Meanwhile, taking a dig over the incident, the Opposition YSR Congress Party said that the incident shows the sad state of affairs where a ruling party corporator cannot get work done, adding "What can a common man expect from the TDP-lead government and its officers."
