Armed robbers strike Hyderabad bound Chennai-Egmore Express, decamp with booty

Train robberies are continuing unabated in Andhra Pradesh with the railway police failing to act quickly or even provide security to the passengers.

It was a nightmare journey for the passengers of Hyderabad bound Chennai-Egmore Express train when a gang of robbers looted several passengers of the train while it was passing through Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.

The robbers used weapons to threaten passengers. Women travelling in coaches from S1 to S5 were particularly targeted and gold ornaments and valuables were snatched from them.

As per eyewitnesses, the incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday when the train was on its way to Kacheguda junction.

The robbers got into the train when it stopped at the Malyala railway station crossing near Dhone of Kurnool district.

Some passengers tried to catch the robbers but in vain.

The victims registered complaints at the Kachiguda junction railway police after the train's arrival this morning.

The passengers have alleged that the robbery took place due to the negligence of railway police.
