A high alert has been sounded in South Kashmir after intelligence inputs of attacks being planned by Jais-e-Mohammed in the Valley.

The exclusive note accessed by India Today says that incidents of weapon snatching, killing of security force personnel, grenade attacks and indiscriminate firing will be on an upsurge in coming days especially on June 23 (Alwida Jumma). The input comes days ahead of Amarnath Yatra which will begin on June 29.

THINGS TO KNOW:

According to intelligence inputs, senior Jaish-e-Mohammad militants may plan to execute attacks in Kashmir on the pattern of April 21 attack on Afghan military base in Mazar-e-Sharif. As many as 140 Afghan soldiers were killed by Taliban attackers in what was one of the deadliest attacks ever on an Afghan military base.

About 10 Taliban fighters had attacked Camp Shaheen, headquarters of the 209 Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA), in Balkh province.

The inputs said that Jaish cadres are trying to infiltrate from North Kashmir and Jammu region to carry out their deadly plans.

Intelligence agencies have also received information that JeM commander Qarizarar has selected four of his best men to carry out suicide attack on security force camps.

The input also revealed that top Lashkar commander Basheer and Touseef Sheikh of Hizbul Mujahideen have formed two small groups to target security forces in Khanabal to Qazigund and Khanabal to Pahalgam.

The note cautions security forces on leave or on movement. It also cites examples of recent killings of J&K cops and Lieutenant Umar Fayaz.
