Congress spokesman Raj Babbar today accused the ruling Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh of 'sleeping for four years and then rushing forward to complete gigantic projects in just one year'.

Talking to India Today, Babbar said that the Samajwadi Party government is making tall claims about dream projects that can never be completed in one year. It was clear, he said, that the party wanted to use unfinished projects as an excuse to get re-elected in 2017.

He alleged that Yadav's ploy of writing to Railway minister Suresh Prabhu to start a modern Mathura-Vrindavan rail-bus service was just populism, as this project was something that the central government will have to take up, even as UP government will take credit.

He said if Samajwadi Party really thought so much about the people of Mathura-Vrindavan, then it should have written this letter as soon as it came to power.

Commenting on the BJP, Babbar said that having failed miserably in Delhi and Bihar, the BJP is in shock and will lose heavily even in states facing assembly elections.

He said that the 2017 elections are worrying the PM Narendra Modi and if BJP loses in UP, it would indirectly mean the people have lost faith in the prime minister. Babbar added that Modi's declaration to divide Uttar Pradesh into four states seems to be part of this strategy to consolidate his party's falling position.

Raj Babbar also mocked Modi's foreign visits, saying the entire country is getting turned off at the way Modi is working. The country's businessmen are worried they will lose everything if Modi remains in power, even as the PM does not have any time for the country as he is constantly on foreign trips.
