Ganajagaran Mancha blogger Ahmed Rajib's killer held in Dhaka

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said that Rana and his associate Ashraf were arrested today from Dhaka's Mirpur area.

Ganajagaran Mancha blogger Ahmed Rajib's killer held in Dhaka

A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Bangladesh has arrested two people including a death row convict in the murder of blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider on Monday. The team detained former North South University student Redwanul Azad Rana during a raid in Dhaka's Uttara.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Media Wing Masudur Rahman told India Today that Rana and his associate Ashraf were detained around 2 pm today.

Blogger and activist of Ganajagaran Mancha Ahmed Rajib Haider was hacked to death near his residence in Dhaka's Mirpur area on February 15, 2013. Haider was killed within 10 days of the Ganajagaran Mancha's movement demanding capital punishment to the war criminals. Investigation officer of the case said that Rana had planned the killing.

Earlier, a Dhaka court awarded death sentences to Rana and Faisal Bin Noim Deep for Haider's murder in December 2015.

Another accused was awarded life imprisonment while 5 others including militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) chief Mufti Jashim Uddin Rahmani, got different jail terms. The High Court kept its judgment pending after concluding hearing appeals by seven convicts.
