At least 24 people were killed and over 100 others injured after tropical cyclone Roanu hit Bangladesh, yesterday.

At 88 kilometres per hour heavy winds and torrential rains hit the Barisal-Chittagong region, sending impacts across the country. Consequently, a trail of destruction forced the evacuation of half a million residents, authorities said.

According to Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury, minister of disaster management and relief, the northwestern Chittagong appeared to be the worst victim of the cyclone as it hit the coastline at a speed of 80 kilometre per hour, killing 12 people in that port city alone. Bhola, Noakhali and Cox's Bazar coastal districts each witnessed three deaths.
