The people were going to visit the Ooty flower show when the tree fell on the vehicle in the wee hours of Sunday due to the strong winds and rains that lashed the region.

The injured person has been identified as Shahir (40). Mayan and Guruvayurappan , who were also in the vehicle with Shahir, escaped without injuries.

Thirupathur natives Bharathi and Muthu, who were coming in another vehicle behind the Keralites' vehicle, were also injured after the branches of the tree fell over their vehicle. The injured have been admitted to Coonoor government hospital.
