A K Saseendran, who is one of the senior leaders in Kerala politics, had to resign following allegations of obscene talk over phone.
The audio clipping of alleged obscene telephonic conversation of Saseendran with a woman who had earlier approached the Minister for lodging a complaint, was released by a private television channel.
Saseendran became the minister in the LDF cabinet as MLA of NCP. He was elected from Elathur constituency after securing the biggest majority in Kozhikode district this time.
Saseendran doubled the majority of 14,654 he secured from the constituency in 2011 by securing 29,057 votes after defeating P Kishan Chand of Janata Dal (U).
A native of Elayavoor in Kannur, Saseendran started his public activism through KSU in 1962.
He became the Kozhikode district secretary of KSU in 1965 and its state general secretary in 1967.
He was selected as the Youth Congress state general secretary in 1969 and its state president in 1978.
When the party split, Saseendran joined Congress (S) and worked with K P Unnikrishnan and A C Shanmukhadas. He has served as the state General Secretary of the Congress (S) from 1982 to 1998.
From 1999 to 2004, he was the state secretary of NCP and served as the state vice-president of NCP from 2004. From 2006, he was the NCP national working committee member and leader of his party in the legislative assembly.
He also served as a member of the Coffee Board and Housing Board.
