Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Congress leader VM Sudheeran lambasted the High Court verdict of allowing opening of beer and wine parlours on highways.
The verdict announced on May 16th and 19th was criticised by Sudheeran during the Assembly march conducted by Madya Virudha Janakeeya Munnani.
"There were lapses in the High Court verdict. The court pronounced the verdict without correctly understanding the wrong notification produced by the bar owners. The government which helps the bar owners did not point out this matter. The honour of judges and the court should be upheld. I will point out if mistakes happen. The court need not get upset over this," Sudheeran said.
"The high court had asked why there was delay in approaching the court against the verdict. The matters that come up in the high court reach media after several days. The verdict that was delivered on May 16 and 19 reached the media on June 1st," Sudheeran pointed out.
Accusing the government and bar owners of utilising the lack of clarity in the court verdict, Sudheeran said that he welcomed the court's decision to correct its mistake after re-examining the verdict.
"However, I am sad that the court, which flayed the government for cheating the court, has criticised me," Sudheeran said.
