Schools to have 200 working days, classes on six Saturdays

Thiruvananthapuram: The state Education Department has unveiled the new education calendar for academic year 2017-18 with 200 working days.

Six Saturdays—August 8, September 16, 23, October 21, January 6, 27 –will be working days for schools.

The teachers will have cluster training in each term. There will not be any training classes on working days and in months of February and March.

If exams are scheduled on school working days, the matter will be brought to the notice of the PSC.

Last year too, the Education Department targeted 200 working days, but only 172 working days could be realised. This includes exams.

Onam examinations will be held from August 21 to 31 and Christmas exams will be conducted from December 13 to 22. SSLC, USS exams will begin on February 17.
