Thiruvananthapuram: Coming down strongly against the police action against agitators at Puthyvype, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has said that the job of the police is to enforce law and order in the state and it does not have the right to impose punishment.

Pointing out that the police is speaking about the extremist presence in the Puthuvype agitation in order to hide its own high-handedness, SHRC said it was not correct on the part of top officials to justify the police action.
"The agitation that was conducted peacefully became violent following the intervention of the police," the commission said.
