Kochi: The High Court Lawyers Association has decided to suspend five senior lawyers who condemned the attack by their colleagues against media personnel on the premises of the Kerala High Court premises and also at the District Court in Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram.
The association has decided to take action against advocates C P Udayabhanu, Sivan Madathil, Kaleeswaram Raj, Sebastian Paul and A Jayasankar.
Participating in various media debates on the violence unleashed by the lawyers, the five had condemned the unruly behaviour of the lawyers in strong language.
Consequently, in the emergency meeting of the lawyers’ association convened on Thursday evening, the members severely criticised them.
They accused the senior lawyers of deceiving the lawyer community and also of maligning its image in public.
Following discussions, it was decided to suspend them and serve them show-cause notices.
The lawyers also arrived at a consensus to expel the five from the association if the explanation is not satisfactory.
Meanwhile, the functioning of the courts across the state has been completely paralysed as the lawyers boycotted the courts for the second day.
