Kannur: Four BJP workers and two CPM workers were taken into custody on Saturday in connection with the political murders that occurred in Payyanur recently.
The investigating team has informed that the persons taken into custoday had direct involvement in the murder.
While four BJP workers were taken into custody in the case related to the murder of CPM activist Dhanraj, two CPM workers were taken into custody in connection with the murder of BMS activist Ramachandran.
Earlier, the investigating team had taken into custody majority of the accused in the case. Top police officials are questioning the accused at an undisclosed location.
While the CPM workers who were taken into custody are Kakkanpara natives, the BJP workers are natives of Annur.
The investigating team have registered FIR after naming two CPM activists as accused in connection with the murder of BJP activist Ramachandran. Apart from the two CPM workers, 22 identifiable CPM workers are also named as accused in the case.
Altogether, seven peope are named accused in Dhanraj murder caser. Police have taken four among the seven into custody presently.
The police are hoping that the remaining accused can be nabbed soon.
CPM activist Dhanraj was hacked to death at Kunnaruvil in Ramanthali around 10 pm on Monday night. Hours after the murder, BMS activist Ramachandran was also murdered in Annoor. Widespread violence was reported in Payyanur following the murders.
A gang wearing masks barged into the house of Dhanraj (38), and hacked him to death in front of his family.
CPM activists said that a six-member gang who came in three bikes killed Dhanraj. Though Dhanraj, who received serious injures on his body, was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College, he was brought dead.
Ramachandran (52), the BMS worker who was killed following the death of Dhanraj, was BMS Payyanur area president. He worked as an auto driver in Payyanur town.
