Thiruvananthapuram: In the sensational Kadakampally land grab case, the charge sheet filed by the CBI was returned by the special court as it found the names of 22 persons who were named as accused in the FIR missing. The court returned the charge sheet and asked the CBI to include the names of the accused and then re-submit it. The court also said that the reason why their names were excluded from the charge sheet was unexplained. Judge P V Balakrishnan of the special court issued the direction in this regard.
The CBI submitted the charge sheet the other day excluding the name of Salim Raj, who was the gunman of former chief minister Oommen Chandy, and his wife Shamshad.
27 persons have been named as accused including Salim Raj. But the charge sheet filed by the CBI indicted only five including former deputy tahsildar Vidyodaya Kumar. Besides Vidyodaya Kumar, Nissar Ahmed, Zuhara Beevi, Muhammed Kasim and Rubiya Beevi have been named in the charge sheet.
The Kadakampally case relates to grabbing 44.50 acres of prime land in Kadakampally village from its legitimate owners by quoting non-existent court decrees, falsifying revenue records, and creating fake sales and partition deeds, transfers of registry documents. Salim Raj and his wife were the 21st and 22nd accused in the case.
The case was first probed by the Vigilance and later some petitioners approached the HC for a CBI probe. The HC directed for a CBI probe.
The CBI which began to investigate the case at last submitted the charge sheet excluding the name of Salim Raj from the case. Last year, 10 persons, including Salim Raj, were arrested in connection with the case. They were let off on bail later.
