Thiruvananthapuram: Gangeshananda Theerthapada alias Hari Swamy, who has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in connection with the incident of chopping of his genitals during a rape bid, has been remanded till June 3. Hari Swamy will be under police observation in the hospital as he will have to stay at the hospital for some more days.
The arrest of Hari Swamy was recorded on Saturday by a police team led by Petta Circle Inspector.
Police are conducting a detailed investigation into Hari Swamy's background.
The parents of the woman, who was subjected to sexual assault by Hari Swamy, had said in their complaint that Hari Swamy had swindled Rs 40 lakh from them in order to buy land at various places. Police are probing this matter also.
In an act of self-defence, the woman had chopped off the genitals of Hari Swamy at Petta on Friday night. She further reached the police station and disclosed the matter.
The 23-year-old woman, in her statement as a complainant, told police that she has been subjected to sexual assault ever since she was a Plus One student.
